The University of Michigan Depression Centerr unveiled the latest videos produced by the Maxwell Gray Film Fellowship Monday, Sept. 14. The videos, produced by student filmmakers, focused on college student mental health.
U-M undergraduates Ryan Lynch and Mitchell Salley worked with a professional to produced a pair of videos. One focused on handling grief and the other on a transfer student navigating a new environment.
In Maria's story, her life was turned upside down by her mother's death. She had to deal with the trauma of her mother's death, and the grief made her transition back to school difficult. Maria felt hopeless and helpless because the stress associated with her grief affected her schoolwork. With guidance from a professor, a visit to CAPS, visits with a therapist and support from her friends and family allowed her to transition toward normalcy.
After previously attending a different university, Jake was excited to attend U-M. His loneliness and anxiety, which he experienced before arriving at Michigan, crept up because of his new environment. He was miserable. Eventually, Jake went to CAPS and met a therapist, who helped him out. The resources provided gave him strategies to help him cope and thrive at Michigan.
