NAMI Washtenaw County is dedicated to education, support, and advocacy to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness. The Community Member Award is presented annually to honor an individual for their work in support of this mission.
Nitzberg's award recognizes her efforts toward establishing the Department of Psychiatry's Patient and Family Centered Care Committee; promoting the partnership between the department and NAMI; and for her overall dedication to individuals and families of people living with mental illness.
Nitzberg is the assistant director for psychiatric social work in the Department of Psychiatry, an adjunct faculty member of the U-M Medical School and School of Social Work, and a member of the Depression Center. She will receive the award at NAMI Washtenaw County's Paths to Recovery Conference in October.
