Eric Hipple Receives Ricky Sandoval Award

U-M Depression Center member and Outreach Representative Eric Hipple was recently selected to be the 2010 recipient of the Ricky Sandoval Award.

Mr. Sandoval, the deceased Director of Security for the Lions, died of cancer and during his long struggle, mobilized a network with his courage.

The award will be presented at the 17th annual Detroit Lions Courage House Dinner, December 7th, at Ford Field with guest speaker ABC News Correspondent, Bob Woodruff.

The Ricky Sandoval Award recognizes individuals who have made contributions both in the sports world and in the community.

The recipient displays the same courage, determination and giving spirit that epitomized Ricky.

Prior to last year, the award was named the Community Courage Award but with Ricky's passing in 2009, it was renamed in his honor.

Past recipients include:
  • Steve Yzerman
  • Roger Penske
  • Jerome Bettis
  • Charlie Sanders
  • Lem Barney & Dave Bing
