From Consumer Devices to Research Data: Validation, Data Access, and Industry Partnerships in Mobile Health Studies
Consumer wearables offer new opportunities for remote and real-world data collection, but their use in research requires careful attention to validation, data quality, proprietary algorithms, and platform limitations.
In this DIGIT-MI session, Dr. Adam Lepley will provide practical guidance for designing device validation studies and share lessons learned from negotiating with industry sponsors, with emphasis on defining project scope, protecting scientific integrity, and ensuring study deliverables meet both research and sponsor needs.
Dr. Adam Lepley is an assistant professor of athletic training and movement science and director of the Performance, Rehabilitation & Injury Management through Exercise (PRIME) Lab at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology.
This internal event is open to U-M faculty, staff, trainees, and learners only. Register for our 2026-27 DIGIT-MI season to receive session details and the Zoom link.
DIGIT-MI is an affinity group where University of Michigan faculty and staff meet to connect, learn, and share resources that encourage the increased use of digital and mobile technologies and mental wellness measures in health research. Virtual sessions are held on the second Monday of the month from October through June.
