Join bold thinkers and brilliant minds from across the University of Michigan at this two-part event to advance mental health and well-being research. Faculty who participate in our speed collaborating session will have the exclusive opportunity to apply for a $10,000 mini-grant to support new research collaborations, with the potential for a second-year $50,000 grant.

This event is hosted by the Eisenberg Family Depression Center Mental Health Equity Faculty Lead, Lara Coughlin, and Liaison Committee Chair, Addie Weaver.

Panel Discussion: 12 to 1 p.m.

In this session, Beyond Federal Funding: Pathways Forward for Mental Health Equity Research, panelists will share examples of successful mental health equity projects funded by diverse, non-federal sources. You’ll hear strategies for pitching proposals and exploring alternative funding options to inspire your own research and expand support opportunities. Panelists include:

  • Lindsay Bornheimer, PhD, associate professor, School of Social Work; associate professor, Department of Psychiatry
  • Gary Freed, MD, MPH, Percy and Mary Murphy Professor of Pediatrics; professor, Health Management and Policy
  • Adrienne Lapidos, PhD, clinical associate professor, Department of Psychiatry
  • Sari Reisner, ScD, MA, associate professor, Epidemiology
  • Colleen Sherman, director, Corporate and Foundation Relations

Speed Collaborating: 1 to 3 p.m.

We’re taking the classic “speed networking” format and elevating it—giving you a fast-paced, engaging opportunity to meet diverse peers and spark new collaborations.

How it works

You’ll meet one-on-one with fellow U-M researchers for just 8 minutes to introduce yourself, share ideas and see where your interests intersect. After each round, you’ll rotate to a new colleague. You’ll enjoy great food and beverages while expanding your network across disciplines.

Speed Collaboration participants will have the opportunity to apply for a $10,000 mini-grant and, if selected, a second-year $50,000 grant.
