Health Behavior & Health Equity
Sara Stein, Ph.D., is a clinical scientist whose research centers on interrupting intergenerational trauma transmission from mothers to children—prenatally, postnatally, and during early parenting—especially in structurally underserved communities. Grounded in her experience as a licensed clinical social worker, she integrates evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions through focus groups, participatory research, and community-responsive study designs to ensure treatments meet real families' needs. As part of the Child Health and Development Lab, Dr. Stein identifies key mechanisms of trauma-related risk and collaborates with families and clinicians to enhance the effectiveness and reach of interventions aimed at improving long-term physical and mental health outcomes.
