Nick Kolbman is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan Medical School, where he is co-mentored by Dr. George Mashour and Dr. Dinesh Pal. His research explores the intersection of neuropharmacology, consciousness, and pain, with a particular focus on the therapeutic mechanisms of psychedelics. His dissertation investigates how psilocybin regulates neural circuits involved in arousal states and its potential to alleviate chronic pain. Nick's work is driven by a broader interest in the neurobiology of altered states and the development of novel approaches to pain management.
