Delia Vazquez, M.D., is a leading clinical scientist whose research explores how early-life stress impacts growth, neurodevelopment, and mental health in children. Her work spans pre-clinical models—such as examining maternal stress effects on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and psychosocial dwarfism—to clinical studies assessing cortisol regulation in children facing adversity. She actively engages families, clinicians, and community groups through focus-group research to tailor interventions aimed at mitigating stress-driven developmental disruptions. Her longitudinal studies track children of depressed or bereaved mothers, or those with emotional dysregulation, to inform better-targeted, real-world supports . Dr. Vazquez holds professorships in both Pediatrics and Psychiatry, with appointments in key centers including the Eisenberg Depression Center and the Caswell Diabetes Institute. She earned her M.D. and completed residency training through top U.S. institutions, building a career that bridges bench science, qualitative research, and community-informed clinical practice to improve child health outcomes.
