Workshops & Support Groups facilitated at the Rachel Upjohn Building
Easing some of the frustrations and fears that can accompany a diagnosis of depression is one goal of the Depression Center and Department of Psychiatry’s individual and family support groups and educational workshops. These groups are one example of our focus on providing individuals and their families with tools that allow them to take greater control over depression and bipolar illness and ensuring that the care we provide is centered on patients and families.
A team of social workers provides patients and family members with important information about their diagnosis, self-care, and coping strategies. The group setting creates a supportive environment to encourage participants to become partners in their own care.
Family Education Workshops
A two-hour workshop that offers patients and families the opportunity to learn about depression and bipolar illness while gathering information about risk factors, treatments, impact on families and healthy ways of communicating with each other. Attending a group meeting means that you will meet others with your circumstances and condition. Each member of the group will be asked to be respectful of confidentiality and will sign a statement saying they will not disclose any confidential information.
