The University of Michigan Health System is rich in intellectual resources, and driven to set the pace of discovery. “The Michigan Difference” defines our approach to psychiatric medicine, where exceptional patient care blends with outstanding research and medical education to bring about advances that can only happen at a leading institution like Michigan. We invite you to be part of our mission.

What happens during your first visit?

During your first visit, we will get to know you and your unique situation, and begin to plan your treatment. There are many steps in this introductory process, so you should plan on this appointment taking up to three hours. The time is worth it.

  • After registering at the front desk, you’ll meet with a clinican for a
comprehensive evaluation. Don’t be surprised if many of the questions
you are asked cover the same information you provided on the phone.
This will help us clarify your information and learn even more about
    your needs.
  • You will also be introduced to using M-Strides, a unique program
designed to help our patients and their treatment teams track their
progress over the course of treatment.
  • You and your clinician will discuss your diagnosis and the various
treatment options that may be available to you.
