Congratulations to Our Walkers Taking Part in the Big House Big Heart Race Team
The U-M Depression Center and its members have been busy walking for a cause this fall!
Congratulations to members of the Depression Center's first "annual" Big House Big Heart (BHBH) race team, which took place on Sunday, October 4, 2009 and to those who participated in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Out of the Darkness Community Walk on Sunday, September 20, 2009. We really appreciated your enthusiastic effort and support!
There were many benefits achieved by doing these events-for the Depression Center, for the community, and for our teams:
- We raised awareness in the community about depression and bipolar disorder, and the great people and programs happening at the Depression Center
- We raised important funds to support U-M Depression Center member research and organizations that work locally to help individuals at risk of suicide
- We enjoyed two beautiful days with our colleagues and volunteers
About the walks:
The University of Michigan Big House Big Heart Run is a 5k, 10K or 1 mile fun run that allows participants to finish on the 50-yard line of the Big House! It gives multiple University of Michigan health-related charities the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for their organizations while participating in the physically and emotionally beneficial activities of walking and running with family and friends.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a 3-5 mile scenic walk taking place in more than 200 communities across the country each fall. Proceeds benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, to fund research, education, survivor and awareness programs - both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide.
