Adolescence can be a challenging time for teens and their parents. It brings increased risk for alcohol and drug use as well as depression. Moreover, these problems are sometimes interconnected and exacerbate each other.
To provide greater understanding of the problems of substance abuse, challenging behaviors in youth and what can be helpful, the University of Michigan Depression Center and Gull Lake Community Schools will present a community forum entitled, “Substance Abuse, Challenging Behaviors and Depression in Youth” on Monday, March 23rd 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Gull Lake High School.
Stephen Strobbe, Clinical Director, U-M Addiction Treatment Services, will give a brief overview presentation of the latest research and treatment on substance abuse. Thomas E. Fluent, MD, Medical Director, U-M Department of Ambulatory Psychiatry, will talk about disruptive behaviors in youth. This will be followed by questions from the audience and a discussion with these panelists and local school based consultant, Gerielle Waltz-Stewart.
This forum is open to the public and there is no charge for attendance. Pre-registration is encouraged. To register, please go to www.gulllakecs.org. For questions, please contact Anne Kramer at ack@umich.edu.
