Bipolar disorder can be a devastating illness, for both individuals and families. It is a chronic illness with unstable and unpredictable moods. However, the positive news is that bipolar disorder is treatable, and new research advances are underway.
To provide greater understanding of the causes and treatments for bipolar disorder, including pediatric bipolar disorder, the University of Michigan Depression Center and the Ann Arbor Public Library will present a Bright Nights community forum entitled, “Understanding Bipolar Disorder in Children and Adults,” to be held Tuesday, November 13, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Ann Arbor District Library Downtown Branch (corner of S. Fifth Ave. and William).
Dr. Melvin McInnis, M.D., FRCPsych, the Thomas B. and Nancy Upjohn Woodworth Professor of Bipolar Disorder and Depression at the U-M Depression Center will present a brief overview of the illness from a clinical and genetic perspective. This will be followed by a specialist panel discussion with experts from the Depression Center, joined by David Rosenberg, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience and Miriam L. Hamburger Chair of Child Psychiatry at Wayne State University. Dr. Rosenberg is a specialist in pediatric bipolar disorder.
Bright Nights™ is open to the public and there is no charge for attendance. For more information, please contact Trish Meyer, 763-7495, or meyerpa@umich.edu.
